RUSIQ is the Royal United Services Institute Queensland—a non-partisan, not-for-profit institute that promotes informed discussion on defence, national security, strategy and resilience. We do this through public talks, member events, publications and partnerships.

RUSIQ is the Queensland division of the Royal United Services Institute of Australia. We share the same mission and values, collaborate on national initiatives and speakers, and maintain our own local program, membership and governance.

Membership is open to anyone with a serious interest in defence and national security—serving and former ADF, public servants, academics, industry, students and informed citizens. No, you don’t need to be serving.

Can students and early-career professionals get involved?
Yes—there’s discounted membership, mentoring/networking opportunities, and we actively encourage student research presentations and volunteering at events.

Members receive priority access (and usually discounted tickets) to lectures and seminars, member-only briefings, networking with defence, government and industry, and updates/publications from RUSIQ and RUSI-A. Some events are free for members.

No. RUSIQ is strictly non-partisan. We welcome robust debate but do not advocate for political parties or candidates. Our role is to elevate informed, evidence-based discussion.

Is RUSIQ part of government or Defence?
No. RUSIQ is independent. We often host officials and ADF leaders, but maintain our role as an independent policy institute.
